Charles and Sharon Bell Scholarship For Citizenship and Leadership

The following information is based on information provided by Charles T. Bell, PSU ’67, Eagle Scout ’59.

This scholarship is to be presented to one or more qualified students attending Penn State. The scholarship is intended to recognize students who have distinguished themselves through past and ongoing service to the community, either on campus or off campus. Students who are Eagle Scouts (or Gold Scouts from the Girl Scouts) have been designated, by definition, as students who have satisfied the requirements for past service. (They must continue to qualify with ongoing service.)

Interested Scouts should contact:

The initial Charles and Sharon Bell Scholarship For Citizenship and Leadership was awarded for the 1999/2000 academic year to Mr. Brian James Gieda, an Eagle Scout from Trucksville, PA. Eagle Scout Gieda’s scholarship was renewed for the 2000/2001 academic year, due to his continuing demonstration of good citizenship and to his strong academic performance. Eagle Scout Gieda is exactly the type of young person that the scholarship donors hoped to identify when they established the scholarship.

The scholarship provides a partial subsidy for tuition expense. Recipients must continue to demonstrate a continued commitment to service and must maintain satisfactory academic progress toward their degree in order to renew the award. Financial need will also be considered.
